SoftDent runs as locally installed software and relies upon making calls to a hosted database on the server. Patient information is obfuscated and the database itself is encryptable by the application. That said, SoftDent has been moving away from the traditional workstation/server configuration and towards a terminal-server based system. This works fine for Softdent, much faster actually, however many of the USB-connected sensors are not compatible with the Terminal server and will have to be upgraded to meet the new standard.
